Russian Foreign Minister highlights Fidel's political dimension
MOSCOW.—Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov highlighted the political dimension of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, whom he described as "one of the most influential politicians of our times," ANSA reports.
During the launch of the Russian edition of the books The Strategic Counteroffensive and The Strategic Victory, Lavrov recalled that in their messages of congratulations last August 13, on the occasion of Fidel's 85th birthday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin affirmed the profound respect which the Cuban leader enjoys in this country.
Fidel is currently known as one of the statesmen and politicians of greatest authority, as a genuine patriot, fighter for social justice and a steadfast precursor of the formation of a new and more just world order, the Russian foreign minister affirmed.
During an event in the Foreign Ministry's ceremonial room, Lavrov stated that the legendary Cuban revolutionary is still active as a thinker and a person sincerely concerned about the fate of humanity.
"We know Fidel Castro well as a great friend of Russia and we highly value his great contribution to establishing and developing bilateral links, which for decades were full of sentiments of sincere friendship, mutual understanding and solidarity," he noted.
